Sydney, Australia — Well-known Indian businessman Mr. Bipen Sharma, widely respected in Australia for both his entrepreneurial success and decades of service to the Indian community, has pledged $100,000 towards the construction of the proposed ‘India Gate’ at Harris Park’s Little India.
Harris Park’s Wigram Street, popularly known as “Little India”, has for years been the heart of the Indian diaspora in Sydney. With its vibrant restaurants, shops, and cultural activities, the community has long advocated for a symbolic ‘India Gate’ to represent Indian heritage, culture, and identity.
The Parramatta Council has already approved the project and allocated a substantial budget of 3.5 million. However, despite funding approval, the construction has faced repeated delays, leaving the community waiting for tangible progress.
Mr. Bipen Sharma is not only a successful entrepreneur but also a figure deeply admired for his contributions to the Indian community in Australia.
He is the founder of the renowned brand “Sharma Kitchen”, known for its authentic Indian dairy products and food supplies.
For the past 30–35 years, Mr. Sharma has been actively engaged in supporting various social, cultural, and community initiatives.
He is widely recognized as someone who has tirelessly worked to preserve and promote Indian culture and values in Australia.
Speaking about the proposed gate, Mr. Sharma emphasized that the India Gate would not merely be a physical structure but a powerful symbol of identity and pride for the Indian diaspora.
In his announcement, Mr. Sharma said:
“If there is any shortage of funds for this project, I am willing to personally contribute 100,000. It is my wish that the ‘India Gate’ be constructed at the originally proposed location — the entrance of Wigram Street. I also appeal to fellow members of the Indian community to come forward and support this historic project.”
The Indian community has warmly welcomed Mr. Sharma’s gesture, viewing it as a step that could bring new momentum to the much-awaited project. Once completed, the India Gate will not only strengthen the cultural identity of the Indian diaspora but will also serve as a major attraction for tourists visiting Sydney.

हैरिस पार्क की विग्राम स्ट्रीट (Wigram Street) को लंबे समय से “लिटिल इंडिया” के रूप में जाना जाता है। यहाँ भारतीय भोजनालयों, दुकानों और सांस्कृतिक गतिविधियों ने इसे भारतीय समुदाय का केंद्र बना दिया है। पिछले कई वर्षों से समुदाय यह माँग करता आ रहा है कि यहाँ एक “इंडिया गेट” बने जो भारतीय संस्कृति, परंपराओं और पहचान का प्रतीक बने।
इस परियोजना को पररामट्टा काउंसिल से पहले ही स्वीकृति मिल चुकी है और इसके लिए 3 से 5 मिलियन डॉलर का बजट आवंटित किया जा चुका है। इसके बावजूद, अब तक निर्माण कार्य शुरू नहीं हो पाया है, जिससे समुदाय में निराशा व्याप्त है।
बिपेन शर्मा न केवल एक सफल व्यवसायी हैं बल्कि भारतीय समुदाय की सेवा के लिए जाने जाते हैं।

उनका मानना है कि ‘इंडिया गेट’ केवल एक संरचना नहीं होगी बल्कि यह भारतीय पहचान और गर्व का प्रतीक बनेगी।
अपने उदार योगदान की घोषणा करते हुए उन्होंने कहा:
“यदि परियोजना में किसी तरह की वित्तीय कमी है, तो मैं अपनी ओर से एक लाख अमेरिकी डॉलर का योगदान देने को तैयार हूँ। मेरी इच्छा है कि ‘इंडिया गेट’ उसी स्थान पर बने जहाँ इसकी मूल योजना बनाई गई थी — यानी विग्राम स्ट्रीट के प्रवेश द्वार पर। मैं भारतीय समुदाय के अन्य लोगों से भी आह्वान करता हूँ कि वे आगे आएं और इस ऐतिहासिक परियोजना को सफल बनाने में योगदान दें।”
भारतीय समुदाय ने बिपेन शर्मा के इस कदम की सराहना करते हुए कहा है कि उनका यह योगदान परियोजना को नई गति देगा। यह गेट न केवल भारतीय प्रवासियों की सांस्कृतिक पहचान और विरासत को मज़बूती देगा, बल्कि सिडनी आने वाले पर्यटकों के लिए भी आकर्षण का केंद्र बनेगा।
