Sydney, Tuesday 9 September 2025 – The NSW Government has met with more than 40 leaders from peak bodies and community organisations representing the Australian-Indian community to confront recent threats to social cohesion.
The roundtable, chaired by Premier Chris Minns alongside Treasurer Daniel Mookhey and Minister for Multiculturalism Steve Kamper, was convened with the support of Multicultural NSW.
A central outcome of the meeting was a call for bipartisan support for the Australian-Indian community, with the Government set to move a motion in Parliament seeking backing across party lines. The notice of motion was lodged today, with debate expected on Wednesday, 10 September.
Premier Minns strongly condemned recent racist rhetoric, pledging solidarity with the Australian-Indian community:
“Australian Indians have done so much for our country. They are hardworking, community-minded and deeply patriotic,” he said.
“We stand united in saying racist rhetoric and divisive false claims have no place in NSW or Australia. When neo-Nazis and white supremacists spread lies, we will call it out. The truth is that Australian Indians are one of the most successful and respected communities in our nation.”
Treasurer Daniel Mookhey emphasised that immigration policy debates should not target any single community.
“Australian Indians should not be used as political fodder in internal party disputes,” he said.
“We can discuss migration settings without vilifying one group. Our Government is committed to ensuring the Australian-Indian community feels safe, supported, and valued.”
Minister for Multiculturalism Steve Kamper described the recent intimidation of Australian Indians as “a blight on the State.”
“The Australian-Indian community embodies the values of hard work, aspiration and respect. Their contributions strengthen our society,” he said.
“Our Government will continue to stand alongside them and ensure future generations can thrive in an inclusive NSW.”
The roundtable marked a united front between Government and community leaders to safeguard harmony and reaffirm the place of Australian-Indians as an integral part of NSW’s social fabric.
सिडनी, मंगलवार 9 सितंबर 2025 – हाल ही में सामने आए सामाजिक सौहार्द्र पर खतरों से निपटने के लिए न्यू साउथ वेल्स (NSW) सरकार ने ऑस्ट्रेलियाई-भारतीय समुदाय के शीर्ष निकायों और संगठनों के 40 से अधिक नेताओं के साथ बैठक की।
इस गोलमेज बैठक की अध्यक्षता प्रीमियर क्रिस मिन्स ने की। उनके साथ NSW के कोषाध्यक्ष डेनियल मुखर्जी और बहुसांस्कृतिक मामलों के मंत्री स्टीव कैम्पर भी मौजूद रहे। यह बैठक मल्टीकल्चरल NSW के सहयोग से आयोजित की गई।
बैठक का प्रमुख निष्कर्ष यह रहा कि ऑस्ट्रेलियाई-भारतीय समुदाय के समर्थन में सभी राजनीतिक दल एकजुट हों। इस सिलसिले में सरकार ने संसद में प्रस्ताव लाने का निर्णय लिया है। प्रस्ताव की सूचना आज दी गई और उम्मीद है कि बुधवार, 10 सितंबर को इस पर बहस होगी।
प्रीमियर क्रिस मिन्स ने हालिया नस्लवादी टिप्पणियों की कड़ी निंदा की और ऑस्ट्रेलियाई-भारतीय समुदाय के साथ एकजुटता जताई।
“ऑस्ट्रेलियाई-भारतीयों ने हमारे देश के लिए बहुत योगदान दिया है। वे मेहनती, परिवार-प्रेमी और समुदाय-केन्द्रित हैं, और सबसे बढ़कर, वे ऑस्ट्रेलिया से प्रेम करते हैं,” उन्होंने कहा।
“हम सब मिलकर कहते हैं कि नस्लवादी बयानबाज़ी और झूठ फैलाने वाली बातें हमारे राज्य या देश में बर्दाश्त नहीं की जाएंगी। जब श्वेत वर्चस्ववादी और चरमपंथी झूठ फैलाते हैं, तो हम उसका डटकर मुकाबला करेंगे। सच्चाई यह है कि ऑस्ट्रेलियाई-भारतीय हमारे सबसे सफल और सम्मानित समुदायों में से एक हैं।”
NSW के कोषाध्यक्ष डेनियल मुखर्जी ने कहा कि प्रवासन नीति पर बहस करना ज़रूरी है, लेकिन किसी एक समुदाय को निशाना बनाना अस्वीकार्य है।
“ऑस्ट्रेलियाई-भारतीयों को राजनीतिक विवादों में बलि का बकरा नहीं बनाया जाना चाहिए,” उन्होंने कहा।
“हम प्रवासन नीति पर चर्चा कर सकते हैं, पर किसी समुदाय को दोषी ठहराना अनुचित है। हमारी सरकार यह सुनिश्चित करेगी कि ऑस्ट्रेलियाई-भारतीय समुदाय सुरक्षित और सम्मानित महसूस करे।”
मंत्री स्टीव कैम्पर ने कहा कि ऑस्ट्रेलियाई-भारतीयों को डराया-धमकाया जाना हमारे राज्य के लिए कलंक है।
“यह समुदाय मेहनत, महत्वाकांक्षा और सम्मान जैसे मूल्यों का प्रतीक है। उनका योगदान हमारे समाज को और समृद्ध बनाता है,” उन्होंने कहा।
“हम उनकी पीढ़ियों के उज्जवल भविष्य के लिए हमेशा उनके साथ खड़े रहेंगे।”
यह बैठक सरकार और समुदाय नेताओं के बीच एक मजबूत साझेदारी का संकेत है, जो सामाजिक सौहार्द्र की रक्षा और ऑस्ट्रेलियाई-भारतीयों की अहम भूमिका को और मज़बूत करने की दिशा में है।
