The proposed India Gate and the development of Little India at Harris Park have been under discussion for several years. Federal MP Dr. Andrew Charlton had announced an allocation of AUD 3.5 million for the project, but despite 2–3 years passing, little progress has been visible.
Speaking to Hindi Gaurav, Donna Davis MP, the current State Member for Parramatta and former Lord Mayor of Parramatta, shared her views.
Ms. Davis said:
“As the State Member for Parramatta, I am proud to represent a significant Indian Australian community in the NSW Parliament.
As a strong supporter of the Harris Park community, I believe the activation of the precinct will bring positive benefits to both the local community and the economy. I thank Dr Andrew Charlton MP for the funding from the Federal Government.
My understanding is that this project is led by the City of Parramatta Council. The proposed concept designs are currently on public exhibition, and the project is scheduled for completion in early 2026.
Ultimately, this is a Council matter, and I suggest all operational and scheduling queries be directed to the City of Parramatta.
I am also pleased that the Minns Labor Government’s 2025 Community Building Partnerships has funded Little India Businesses Inc. for the purchase of a Harris Park Green Shuttle, which will help address parking challenges sustainably while creating a fun and safe mode of transport for visitors.
As a strong supporter of the Indian Australian community, I will continue working with business owners and residents to make Harris Park and ‘Little India’ a great place to live and visit.”
पैरामट्टा में प्रस्तावित इंडिया गेट और ‘लिटिल इंडिया’ के विकास को लेकर लंबे समय से चर्चा चल रही है। ऑस्ट्रेलियाई फेडरल सांसद डॉ. एंड्रयू चार्लटन ने इस परियोजना के लिए 3.5 मिलियन ऑस्ट्रेलियन डॉलर की राशि उपलब्ध करवाई थी। लेकिन लगभग 2–3 वर्ष बीत जाने के बाद भी परियोजना पर ठोस प्रगति नहीं हो पाई है।
इस विषय पर हिंदी गौरव ने न्यू साउथ वेल्स की स्टेट मेंबर ऑफ पारामट्टा और पूर्व लॉर्ड मेयर, सुश्री डोना डेविस से बात की।
सुश्री डेविस ने कहा:
“पैरामट्टा की संसद सदस्य के रूप में, मैं संसद में एक महत्वपूर्ण भारतीय-ऑस्ट्रेलियाई समुदाय का प्रतिनिधित्व करने पर गर्व महसूस करती हूँ।
हैरिस पार्क समुदाय की एक मजबूत समर्थक के रूप में, मेरा मानना है कि इस क्षेत्र का विकास स्थानीय समुदाय और अर्थव्यवस्था दोनों के लिए लाभदायक होगा। मैं डॉ. एंड्रयू चार्लटन को संघीय सरकार की ओर से मिले वित्त पोषण के लिए धन्यवाद देती हूँ।
जहाँ तक परियोजना की स्थिति का प्रश्न है, यह कार्य सिटी ऑफ़ पैरामट्टा काउंसिल के नेतृत्व में हो रहा है। मेरी जानकारी के अनुसार प्रस्तावित डिज़ाइन फिलहाल सार्वजनिक परामर्श के लिए प्रदर्शित किए गए हैं और परियोजना 2026 की शुरुआत तक पूर्ण होने का लक्ष्य है।
अंततः यह एक काउंसिल का मामला है, और मैं सुझाव दूंगी कि संचालन और समय-सीमा से जुड़ी विस्तृत जानकारी के लिए सीधे पैरामट्टा काउंसिल से संपर्क किया जाए।
मुझे यह भी खुशी है कि मिन्स लेबर सरकार के 2025 कम्युनिटी बिल्डिंग पार्टनरशिप्स के तहत ‘लिटिल इंडिया बिज़नेस इंक.’ को ‘हैरिस पार्क ग्रीन शटल’ के लिए फंडिंग दी गई है, जिससे पार्किंग की समस्या का समाधान होगा और आगंतुकों के लिए सुरक्षित व मनोरंजक परिवहन उपलब्ध होगा।
भारतीय-ऑस्ट्रेलियाई समुदाय की प्रबल समर्थक के रूप में, मैं हमेशा व्यापारियों और निवासियों के साथ मिलकर हैरिस पार्क और ‘लिटिल इंडिया’ को रहने और घूमने के लिए बेहतरीन स्थान बनाने का प्रयास करती रहूँगी।”
